Multi Kühlsysteme GmbH is supplying Siemens with two cooling towers from the KT-A series.
Siemens designs and manufactures standard gear units for industrial applications as well as rail vehicle drive systems for high-speed trains, trams, and metro and suburban railways.
The delivery of the new cooling towers replaces two existing cooling towers from Multi Kühlsysteme GmbH that have been in operation since 1991 and 2002, respectively—impressively demonstrating the longevity of our products.
These open evaporative cooling towers of the KT-A series feature a housing made of GRP (glass-fiber-reinforced plastic) and a top-mounted axial fan. Thanks to a special bionic blade profile, the fan has proven to be exceptionally smooth-running and energy-efficient. The installed fans therefore comply with the Ecodesign Directive 2009/125/EC. In combination with a suitable exhaust air silencer, these fans allow compliance with the nighttime limits of the Technical Instructions on Noise Abatement (TA Lärm) for mixed-use areas under free-field sound propagation at a distance of approximately 55 to 60 meters. Through these noise control measures, the required immission value of 45 dB(A) can be met or even undershot.
Water distribution in the KT-A series is implemented using plastic components. Dirt-resistant plastic spray nozzles are used, and high-performance polypropylene film fill packs are employed for the trickle sections. The resulting low overall weight of the cooling towers offers advantages, among other things, when selecting the installation location.
The cooling towers are specifically designed for outdoor installation and are suitable for water inlet temperatures of up to 65°C. The achievable cooling water temperatures depend accordingly on ambient air temperature and humidity. By using speed-controlled fans, the cooling water temperatures can be adjusted within the defined limits. The KT-A cooling towers operate with pure water, without the addition of glycol.
Another advantage of Multi cooling towers is their ease of maintenance. This is achieved through the simple removal of casing components, providing excellent access to wear parts.
