Forced draft cooling towers

The Modern MC-D Series

Not every location offers ideal conditions for a cooling system. Often, the available installation height is limited, the cooling tower must be located inside a building, or strict noise limits apply with regard to the surrounding neighborhood.

Since we at MULTI Kühlsysteme are well acquainted with precisely these situations, we have developed the MC-D series: an open forced draft cooling tower made of stainless steel that combines high cooling capacity with a low-profile design. These models are custom-designed for you to meet the specific needs of your operation.

Forced Draft in Operation

The MC-D 750 and MC-D 1500 models

With the custom-designed MC-D 750 and MC-D 1500 cooling towers, two models are available that remain compact even when cooling demands are high. When space is limited but high cooling capacity is required, these models really show what they’re made of.

A comparison of our models:

Model Rated Cooling Capacity Connected load per fan Dimensions Number of fans
MC-D 750 750 kW 5.85 kW 4,300 x 2,420 x 3,050 mm 2 or 4 units
MC-D 1500 1,500 kW 5.85 kW 5,450 x 2,420 x 3,050 mm 4 or 6 units

Both fan configurations can be equipped with additional silencers if needed. This also applies to the MC cooling towers with an induced draft system.

Good Reasons to Choose the MC-D Forced Draft Cooling Towers

With the MC-D cooling towers, we have not only expanded the MC series but also taken it to the next level. These models are in no way inferior to the MC models in terms of sustainability, energy efficiency, and performance, yet they offer key advantages such as their space-saving design.

These forced draft cooling towers offer benefits for your industry, such as:

  • Robust industrial technology: The MC-D series is high-performance and designed for continuous operation in industrial environments.
  • Compact design despite high performance: A height of about three meters is sufficient, ideal for new construction as well as for retrofits under limited ceiling heights.
  • Indoor installation and duct connection: The tower can be installed inside buildings and connected to existing air ducts.
  • Comprehensive sound insulation: Upstream and downstream silencers significantly reduce the sound power level. This is often the deciding factor when the unit is located near residential areas or during nighttime operation.
  • Consistently customized: The number of fans, sound insulation, controls, and substructure are tailored to your specific location, not to a catalog.

FAQ: Forced Draft Cooling Towers

How does a forced draft cooling tower work?

In a forced draft cooling tower, the fans are not located on top of the hood but on the sides of the housing. They force ambient air into the tower, where it flows through the film of water trickling down the fill media. Some of the water evaporates, thereby removing heat from the system.

This arrangement of the fans on this cooling tower has significant consequences:

  1. First, the overall height is significantly reduced because no fan assembly takes up space above the tower.
  2. Second, silencers can be installed both in front of and behind the fans.

A forced draft cooling tower thus offers significantly more flexibility for soundproofing. In addition, the air can be channeled through ducts, which makes indoor installation possible in the first place. This makes this cooling system a decisive factor for your business or industry when it comes to reliability, efficiency, and safety.

How an MC-D series forced draft cooling tower works

A forced draft cooling tower is particularly well-suited for locations with limited headroom or heightened noise control requirements. Since the fans are located on the sides of the housing, the overall height of the system can be kept relatively low. In addition, silencers can be integrated in front of and behind the fans. Indoor installation with connection to appropriate air ducts is also possible.

At MULTI Kühlsysteme, we are committed to the continuous development of modern cooling technology. How well a forced draft cooling tower performs in everyday operation is rarely determined by its rated capacity alone, but rather by the details that, during continuous operation, influence energy consumption, hygiene, and maintenance requirements.

This is exactly where we focus with the MC-D series. From fan control to material selection to water flow, every component is designed to ensure that your cooling tower continues to operate reliably and economically even after many years. These features set the series apart:

  • Adjustable EC fans: The speed adapts to actual demand, saving electricity and reducing operating costs.
  • Robust stainless steel housing: The housing, basin, and hood are made of corrosion-resistant stainless steel sheet metal in a bolted construction, ensuring a long service life even under harsh industrial conditions.
  • Well-designed water drainage: An angled basin allows residual water to drain completely, while generously sized industrial nozzles prevent clogging. Both features contribute to hygienically sound operation in accordance with VDI 2047 Part 2 and the 42nd BImSchV.
  • Adaptable to the installation site: Whether it’s additional sound insulation, PLC integration for operational monitoring, or remote access via MULTI CONNECT, the towers can be fully tailored to your operations.
  • Ready for upcoming regulations: The models already comply with the EU Ecodesign requirements that will take effect in 2026.
  • Flexible substructure: Available in hot-dip galvanized steel or stainless steel, suitable for virtually any installation site.

Our cooling technology for your business is 100 percent manufactured in Germany. Complete assembly at our headquarters in Aue also shortens transport distances and reduces CO₂ emissions, a factor that is becoming increasingly important in competitive bidding processes.

In a forced draft cooling tower, silencers can be installed both upstream and downstream of the fans. This provides various options for adjusting noise emissions to meet the requirements of the specific site. This can be particularly important during nighttime operation or near residential areas. For the MC-D series, noise control measures are designed to suit local conditions.

The MC-D cooling towers use variable-speed EC fans whose output can be adjusted to meet current cooling demands. Depending on the configuration, the MC-D 750 is equipped with two or four fans, while the MC-D 1500 has four or six. The connected load per fan is 5.85 kW. Demand-based speed control helps reduce energy consumption, particularly during periods of lower load.

A cooling tower of this type is an interesting solution when high cooling capacities must be provided in a limited space. This applies, for example, to buildings with low ceiling heights, retrofit projects, or locations near residential areas. Thanks to its sound insulation capabilities, the system can be adapted to demanding acoustic conditions. The forced draft design also offers significant advantages for planned indoor installations.

A forced draft cooling tower can be operated energy-efficiently through demand-based fan control. The EC fans in the MC-D series adjust their speed to the cooling capacity currently required. As a result, the system does not have to operate continuously at maximum fan power. This can reduce electricity consumption and thus operating costs, particularly during part-load operation.
