n our search for highly effective agents to prevent the spread of microbiological growth in cooling water, we became aware of aquagroup AG.
The company manufactures systems for the generation of chemically activated water (NADES 2.0). This technology is based on the electrolysis of salt, which subsequently produces an active chlorine solution. This solution is added to the cooling water in very low concentrations.
A major advantage is the online measurement of the active agent concentration via a probe. This ensures continuous monitoring of the required final chlorine concentration in the cooling water and allows the active substance to be dosed as needed. In contrast to conventional biocides, which are typically added to cooling water in intermittent shock dosing cycles, this technology enables demand-based, controlled biocide dosing regulated by the probe. As a result, the system automatically adapts to environmental conditions such as contamination input, temperature fluctuations, and similar factors.
Multi Kühlsysteme GmbH has already been able to implement joint projects with aquagroup AG this year, and we have been more than convinced by the results. In particular, the retrofitting of a large recooling plant—where significant and recurring problems with biocide application had persisted over a long period—proved to be an impressive example of the highly effective disinfection performance of NADES 2.0. After the action value had been exceeded many times over a period of several months and various biocidal agents failed to achieve any improvement, the switch to the chlorine-based NADES technology resulted in a permanent compliance below Test Value 1 of the 42nd BImSchV.
Within a short period of time, a cooling water system that had previously been operated conventionally with biocides achieved positive results that many plant operators rarely experience in practice. In addition, a newly built system by Multi Kühlsysteme was already equipped with aquagroup technology this year. This demonstrates that, going forward, we are able to integrate water treatment solutions beyond standard biocides into our recooling systems and offer them to you as an alternative.
Another key advantage is the avoidance of hazardous substances, which are typically inherent to all biocides. Since aquagroup technology requires only regenerating salt, water, and electricity, it complies with the principle of avoiding hazardous substances while simultaneously improving occupational safety. Equally important is the fact that the treated cooling water can be discharged into the wastewater system without any issues, as the final concentration of the active substance is so low that it poses no risk.
